SDL Trados Studio 2014 apps: sleek and shiny SDLXLIFFs
In this series of articles on SDL apps you can read about applications for your Trados Studio 2014. The previous posts explained how to customise user interface, how to tweak your translation memories and how to use termbases more efficiently. Now, let’s have a look at apps that can smooth your work with SDLXLIFF files.
With this app you can work on individual files, projects or a whole folder to create a new SDLXLIFF file based on your criteria or slice and merge files. Another feature enables to change the status of the selected segments or lock and unlock them. You can also clear several segments within a few clicks or search and replace text in source or target files. Plus, when choosing this option you’ll be able to preview the changes before creating the final file. This app is especially useful if you need to carry out many complex operations on multiple files in
a short time.
This application will come in handy if you want to find out whether your files contain any technical issues. SecureSDLXLIFF simulates the translation process to detect problems in Microsoft Office documents before uploading the files into SDL Trados Studio. If a faulty file is detected, you can repair or optimise it. The app offers a variety of options, such as removing comments, expanding hidden columns or deactivating track changes. All this to assure a smooth translation process without the need to implement changes directly in the MS files.
SDLXLIFFFit will be especially useful for project managers preparing source files for multiple languages. With this app you don’t have to specify the target language for the project. You can create a source file based on a selected project template with your preferred settings and send it to translators.
This app creates TMX files from SDLXLIFF files based on the selected options. You can exclude segments with a certain status or with identical source and target segments or remove formatting information. Optionally the app can export a SDLXLIFF file to a text file. It’s a practical and quick solution if you need to create a customised TMX for use in other tools or to hand in your translation along with a modified TM.
With these applications, available in SDL OpenExchange App Store, you can quickly modify your SDLXLIFFs and ensure a smoother translation process.
