All-round Translator: creating added value for translators

logo ARTAll-round Translator Events is up and running! A spontaneous idea to do something new in the translation industry has transformed into a platform for continuous professional development for translators.

What is ART?

Last year together with Ellen Singer from AzTech Solutions we organised the first All-round Translator meeting in Delft (Netherlands). The event included three sessions focused on business skills, followed by a city tour and a dinner to give the attendees more opportunities for networking and exchanging their ideas. A one-off event quickly turned into an annual ART day. Then more ideas emerged and now we’ve complemented our annual event with quarterly four-hour workshops on a specialisation within translation. The annual one-day events and half-day workshops are held to help translators run their business in a more effective way, and to expand their skills in a selected field of speciality. Our first workshop will be held on the 10th of September and focuses on poetry translation. For 2017 we’ve already scheduled three workshops: transcreation, regular expressions and SEO.

Why we do it?

We’ve attended many translation conferences as attendees and as speakers, and at some point we realised that there’s a knowledge gap that needs to be filled. Some conferences focus on a specific topic, others on translation and interpreting in general, but the presenters are mainly translators or interpreters. We aim to provide presentation on the additional non-linguistic skills that all translators need to succeed as entrepreneurs. The presenters at our events are specialists from outside the translation field, so we can learn directly from the experts in sales, client acquisitions, website development, accounting and many other fields.

How to join us?

Our small-scale events provide a possibility to network with other translators and ask the presenters any and all questions you may have. To improve your business skills, you can join us at ART 2016 on the 19th of November in Leiden, Netherlands. If you’re interested in developing your translation skills, have a look at our four-hour workshops. Registration is always via e-mail or via form included on the ART website.

ART events can also be a great opportunity to visit the Netherlands. Leiden, where the workshops and ART 2016 are to be held, is located only 20 minutes away from the Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam! So, no matter where you’re based, you can reach us easily to start growing your translation business.
